"Popin presents Craft Talk, 10 Oct 2015. Group photo of 4 speakers with Popin members at end of the talk. Congrats on a successful event! Went away feeling happy. The audi at Tampines Changkat CC was a cozy environment for the talk." - Momshoo's dad (facebook photo)
Walked for 2.5 hours today. I am wearing the Mata Traders Aurora Vneck Blue Dress to the POPIN Craft Talk 2015 to spread the word about their cause, as October is Fair Trade Month! The fabric is block printed in India with hand embroidery on it and its my favourite dress that I have from Mata Traders.
I have started to be cut down on the clothes that I buy, knowing that I can own a few outfits that can last a lifetime (further assured by the Japanese film, Stitch of Life) and becoming more conscious of how to lead a simpler life. Dear Popin craft,
Thank you for giving me a platform to share about my past works and Mi Casa Su Casa. I am truly grateful, and I am sorry for not keeping track of time despite talking about being mindful about time! Thank you Betty and the amazing POPIN crew for working so hard on making the talk work, for inviting the other amazing speakers, Shirley Soh, Fictive Fingers and Ashley, all of whom I admire and respect, Corine for being the mc, Xiuting for clicking the slides, Susan for assisting us, Cynthia and Shirly for being ushers, Nathania and Shu Ning Lim ( Momshoo ) for handling Craft the City matters, Helen for arranging the bouquet and Anjali Design for the beautiful fuzed glass pendant! (POPIN is always very thoughtful, we need more of this kind of warmth in the city!) Not to forget, the wonderful audience who came down, a very big thank you to you too! Thank you all for the hard work! Please rest well now everyone xoxo POPIN Craft Talk 2015 happened today at the auditorium at Tampines Changkat CC, where the POPIN studio is based. The talk was themed around the act of crafting in the midst of the city, in line with the Craft the City Project. Corine, Dorothy and Betty addressed the audience about how POPIN came about, and a warm introduction to the talk. And the series of 4 talks began!
It is nice to know that there is a community of like minded people who are making things and inspiring people in their own way. For those who missed it, more about the speakers here: https://www.artsy.net/artist/shirley-soh http://www.fictivefingers.com/ http://yeoashley.net/ Popin craft Talk 2015 is tomorrow!
I'll be speaking first, in my very first talk about the things that I do! To those who are coming (I heard there are 60 of you, so I made 60 pieces of little things for you), Location : Tampines Changkat CC, Level 4 Auditorium. Time 10am. See you there, and please stay to listen to the rest of the line up of amazing people! Fresh out from the kiln and ready for submission!
I wasn't expecting the dull chun blue colour, which differs greatly from the Franz Kafka house on Golden Lane I was drawing references from. But I am enjoying the cloudy grey glaze, which has a mint-teal tinge, very much. More practices to come! |
