There are pros and cons to having your artwork shown on an online platform, especially when your 3D work was made with the intention of requiring public engagement that involves touch. I've made this video before the closing of the exhibition when Travelogic was shown for the first time last year. I never got down to editing it because there was no urgency to, but this time calls for it! So here's a short clip of how you can possible view and interact with the artist book. If you have seen this video and read this post, please let me know how you feel! Printmakers' Assembly : Launching Live Online at 18:00(SGT) on 21 May 2020 on www.stpi.com.sg5/17/2020 You're invited to the online showcase of Printmakers' Assembly! Since it was founded in 2002, STPI has organised motley exhibitions around and beyond its residency programme, working with established artists to expand their oeuvre to incorporate the mediums of print and paper.
Printmakers’ Assembly further opens up the gallery programme to show artworks beyond those produced in STPI’s Creative Workshop. Join us at our inaugural online showcase celebrating the strength, richness and variability of printmaking practices! www.stpi.com.sg I'm delighted to see that the digital activity guides that I had written have been picked up by The Straits Times in the COVID-19 Special. Here are pages from the article. I had worked with the Education Team at STPI before the circuit breaker was announced, and there had been daily updates which affected the timeline of how the the workshops I was slated to conduct, had turned to writing new programmes for children. The planning, photography, making of samples and other processes to produce these guides were done in less than a week with so much stress. I had many doubts about myself during the execution processes, a lot of thought had to be put into generating these guides to suit the nature of what a lockdown could entail with regard to access to materials. I also had to consider not to write something that might sound too privilege with access to complexed and professional tools and equipment, but in contrast, to work with what can be found around the home and the immediate vicinity. But we pulled it off! We've also seen the public try out the guides and it is really encouraging for me especially during the times of uncertainty. I sincerely appreciate STPI for giving me the opportunity and the support from the amazing Education Team and interns who assisted throughout the entire process. The activity guides are launched weekly, with past downloadable guides archived under the 'PUBLIC PROGRAMMES' section on the main website. Please leave some feedback if you have tried the activity with your loved ones! Thank you in advance! I recreated the workspace from last year for some photos to be taken for the gallery's publicity materials for Printmakers' Assembly. The ones I had from last year were badly taken because I was in a rush to complete - almost 65 hours in the making of one book in the edition. Also, some processes were difficult to document on my own. It sure feels good to see my sketches and un bound panels up on the wall after some time of stagnation and not knowing how to proceed from the sudden loss of job and adjusting to a new routine, what they are calling a 'new normal'. I feel more positive looking at these again, that I actually was very productive. We're still in the midst of the circuit breaker and there will definitely be no physical show for Printmakers' Assembly. Could it be to the artists' advantage, in a sense that the audience will get treated to insights into the artists' work spaces and practices, as compared to a superficial presentation in a white cube.
I particularly love sharing processes, especially in art making and print making, an area where even a lot of artists don't know about. I sincerely look forward to more resource pages that will be archived by Printmaking institutes. With the circuit breaker comes many new initiatives and they are pretty positive I must say! Printmakers' Assembly will be launched live on www.stpi.com.sg on 21 May 2020 at 18:00 (SGT). Hope you'll check it out! Unearthed some photocopied graphic novels from graphic novel class 10 years ago. My lecturer would photocopy the entire book for use to go through during class. I never payed much attention to the plot, looked more at the drawing styles. Thought it was time to catch up on the content, but to read through loose sheets proved to be cumbersome, hence, I had City of Glass bound. In creating the design of the stab binding, I drew reference to this page I was reading: The cover has been left blank as I don't have access to a printer right now to have what I had in mind printed.
That'll have to wait. |
