Staring At Death
(installation)
2010
(Dedicated to Louis Lim, my beloved Grandpa, who left my side on 1 February 2009)
I call upon the Kites in the sky, for they now soar the heavens with him,
with strong wings despite the weak legs.
With his passing, these Kites will serve as reminiscence,
their presence a reminder that he’ll always be with me.
Staring At Death(installation) is an extension of the artwork of the same title.
What I was concerned with coincides with the recent loss of my Grandpa, which happened during the genesis of the project. Due to his passing, my work placed an emphasis on memory and loss, with my Grandpa as the driving force for this work.
Read more about the Staring at Death (before they removed the oxygen mask).
Also on display is the complementary illustrated documentary journal, Kites for My Grandpa.
